How to make Windows Vista “Useable” (Vista)

I have been forced to rebuild my vista partition on my notebook ( It crashed a few days after i purchased the notebook & i had gentoo so i never looked back) . I need to use a number of windows only packages for uni so i want an environment that is somewhat useable.

DISABLE UAC!!

Start –> Control Panel –>User Account & Family Safety–>User Accounts –> Turn Off User Access Control

Windows now wants to restart

Uninstall all Symantec Software

Start –> Control Panel –> Uninstall a Program –>Right click on symantec software –>uninstall –>next, next, next, next…

Windows again wants to restart 🙂

Turn on Auto Login

Start –> type “netplwiz” in the box thing & unselect the “users must put in password ….” –> close all windows

You dont need to restart for this one

Kill the sidebar

Righ click on the icon on the taskbar –> properties –>uncheck start with windows –>OK

 Remove ASUS Security Protect Manager

Start –> Control Panel –> Uninstall a Program –>Right click ASUS Security Protect Manager –>Uninstall

Windows again wants to restart 🙂

Remove ASUS Live Update & ASUS Instant Fun

Start –> Control Panel –> Uninstall a Program –>Right click ASUS Live Update –>Uninstall

Start –> Control Panel –> Uninstall a Program –>Right click ASUS Instant Fun–>Uninstall

 Turn off windows Firewall

Start –> Control Panel –>Security –> Firewall –> Change Settings –> Turn Off

It doesn’t say restart but you do need to in order to stop the firewall running

 Uninstall Adobe Acrobat

Start –> Control Panel –> Uninstall a Program –> Right Click Adobe –> Uninstall

Restart Windows

This will do for now…(maybe)
